Shopping is an activity in which a customer browses the available goods or services presented by one or more retailers with the intent to purchase a suitable selection of them. In some context it may be considered a leisure activity as well as an economic one.

In modern days customer focus is more transferred towards online shopping; worldwide people order products from different regions and online retailers deliver their products to their homes, offices or wherever they want. The B2C (business to consumer)= process has made it easy for consumers to select any product online from retailer’s website and have it delivered to the consumer within no time. The consumer does not need to consume his energy by going out to the stores and saves his time and cost of travelling.

Getting started: At the store

Instructions: Read to a conversation in a store.

Customer: Excuse me. How much is that backpack over there?

Sales person: Which one?

Customer: The big one in the back.

Sales person: Do you mean this one?

Customer: Yes, exactly.

Sales person: It’s $44.

Customer: What about this small one here?

Sales person: That one’s $25.

Customer: That’s not bad. I’ll take it.

Now look at the examples:

Here:

  • This is my English book. (singular)
  • These are my notebooks. (plural)

There:

  • That is my car. (singular)
  • Those are bicycles. (plural)

 

This and These are often used with the expressions here or right here.

That and Those are often used with the expressions there, right there or over there.

 

We can use one or ones to substitute a noun that is preceded by this, that, these, those or which. Look at the examples:

We can also use one or ones to substitute a noun preceded by the + adjective.
